Saturday March 17th: Eddie Kominek

I and my wife, Selma, started in Afghan Hounds in 2002 with our first as only a pet which we of course tried to show for a while. We enjoyed the competition and hobby, and a year later bought our first show dog which we finished completely owner-handled by me. On our third Afghan Hound, we discovered lure coursing, another facet of sighthounds, and they revealed to us what they are capable of beyond a show ring. It was our fourth which was our first Dual Champion and became the foundation of our kennel, Kominek Afghan Hounds. In all of our breeding decisions, we strive for functional ability, structural and temperamental soundness and adherence to the standard while looking back to the early imports and native hounds. We try to take an annual trip out West for Open Field Coursing, gauging our stock on live game. We’re 15 years into what will be a lifetime journey, but proud of our accomplishments thus far including Best in Event for the last four years at the AHCA National and multiple Best of Breeds at the II and AKC NLCC over the last few years. Since our first few trials in lure coursing, we were almost immediately involved with working the field including hunt mastering, lure operating, field trial secretarying, chairing and judging. As part of our desire to promote functional sighthounds, once Selma finished her residency, we move to and bought acreage in Tennessee with the intention of running lure coursing trials, even allowing us to host the 2017 AKC National Lure Coursing Championship on our fields. We split our time 50/50 showing and lure coursing. I am currently working on attaining my conformation judging license for Afghan Hounds. I’ve judged several all-breed and specialty matches in the past. Thank you for this opportunity.

Sunday March 18th: Conformation Judge: Sharron Lane

My love affair with sighthounds began when I first met a Greyhound at the Crufts show in Birmingham, England, twenty plus years ago. Within months of returning stateside, I had my first Greyhound, and my life has “gone to the dogs” ever since. Gradually I began to compete with my Greyhounds in racing, coursing, agility and rally obedience. Whippets were a natural addition to my canine family, and with them I embarked upon a fun-filled journey. My first time in the conformation ring with my first Whippet in 2009 resulted in him being awarded WD for his first two points; I was hooked. Since then, I have finished four Champions (GCH CH Snow Hill Soul Unsigned CD BN RAE SC AX AXJ OF CAV, GCH CH MACH3 Festiva’s Sunsational BN RE MXS2 MJB2 MFS T2B4, CH Festiva’s Black To The Future BN RA JC OA OAJ OF, and CH Kanati American From Downunder RN JC MX MXJ OF), entirely owner handled, and have piloted two to their Grand Championships. While I enjoy the conformation ring, my passion lies with performance venues where my Whippets have been quite successful. At my first Whippet National in 2011, Isaac (Snow Hill Soul Unsigned) won the Versatility competition and placed seventh in a large Triathlon entry. In 2014, Revel (Festiva’s Black to the Future) was the number one Rally Whippet. In 2015, my boy Splash! (Festiva’s Sunsational) became the first AKC Grand Champion Whippet to ever achieve a MACH (Master Agility Champion), and as he closes in on MACH4 he remains the only CGH MACH Whippet. In 2016, Splash! was the number one Whippet invited to the AKC Agility Invitational where we competed for the first time. In 2017, he was again invited to the Agility Invitational where he was the top scoring Whippet for the event. Currently, he and his young housemate Kitz (Kanati American From Downunder) are top ranked Whippets in agility. I am honored to be judging your Match, thank you.
